Beginners Guide to Photography Class

Beginners Guide to Photography Class

Saturday the 13th of November
Forest Park, Springfield - 1:00 pm - 3 hours
The magical power of a camera is that anyone can learn how to use it. Photography is one of the most accessible art mediums to learn, and simply requires dedication and practice. In this class, you will learn how to shoot manually with a digital DSLR camera, as well as what constitutes a good photograph. We will go over the history of photography, some beginner tips on how to get started creating quality photographs, and then break out into smaller groups to complete a few photography challenges. Class sizes will be small and I will be there to guide you every step of the way. This class is open to all levels but will primarily focus on beginner photography tips. Sign up no matter what level you are to learn new things about photography and meet other photo enthusiasts in the area!

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations around Springfield.

New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Springfield Photography Facebook Group here to share your photos after the session.

Our classes and photography sessions are limited to a max of 5 students - due to current COVID restrictions

We ask that everyone attending a meetup follows social distancing guidelines:

Stay home if you're sick.
Keep 6 feet away from others.
Don't make unnecessary physical contact with others. Avoid physical greetings, such as handshakes, hugs and kisses.
Wash your hands regularly with alcohol-based sanitiser.
Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a flexed elbow or a tissue.

Very helpful. I really liked how we talked about a topic and then got hands on and practiced that topic. Didn't not feel overwhelmed

Mei Seva
Mei Seva has been taking photographs for as long as she remembers. She still vividly remembers getting her first Polaroid camera at the age of 10, and since then has taken thousands of photographs across the world. Through her work, Mei seeks to capture the world around her in all of its imperfect candidness and to use photography's unique ability to preserve moments in time. Mei often photographs her travels, landscapes, and urban environments. Mei graduated from Hampshire College with a B.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies and Art. In addition to photography, Mei also has experience creating collages and sculptures, as well as documentary and experimental videos. Mei's senior thesis show, "Cognitive Dissonance", was on display at Hampshire College art Gallery in 2018, and her work has been included in "Print Swap". Since graduating, she has taken photographs and created non-fiction videos for a variety of non-profits, educating viewers on issues such as climate change, the environment, and American democracy.
