Pioneering Colors with William Eggleston

Saturday 20 July
Main St, Northampton - 9am - 2 Hours
Thomas Young
It used to be that color photography was considered a gimmick, today it is the norm. The change in attitude towards color photography is in no small part thanks to the work of William Eggleston. Able to brilliantly capture small town American life, Eggleston had the ability to turn the mundane and simple into beautiful works of art. Through this class we will find images in the locations that would make most photographers turn their nose. Be ready to use color and shapes to find great works of art in the everyday.

Despite the rain, which nobody could control, I totally enjoyed the event. I was able to learn from Thomas and get some images that I normally would not have gotten. I'm already looking forward to attending another one.

While living in Las Vegas my family and I would occasionally spend the day at the Las Vegas Strip. On one such occasion we stopped at the Hershey and Resee's store. These cupcakes were in a rounded plexiglass case. Combined with the ridiculous amount of overhead lights I wasn't very confident I'd be able to capture an image that could do them justice. Once I had the images on the computer screen though I was pleasantly surprised to find this one. It's good to remember that no matter what the c

For 2 weeks every winter Sydney is lit up with amazing colours and beams of light over the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and various buildings throughout the city. I captured this photo of the Opera House from across the water at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. I used a slow shutter speed (of 1 sec) to capture light trails from the passing water craft, and I held my iPhone up against my lens to create an artificial reflection on the water.Canon R6ii, RF 70-200mm f2.8 (@ 70mm), 1s, iso 200.

This photo is one I took in september 2023. On this night I captured quite a few different photos and perspectives of the milky way over and around the bridge. My goal on this evening was to take full advantage of the position of the milky way as there are very few opportunities that you can photograph the milky way positioned near the bridge during the year. I found this photo with other ones from that night I had not edited. Astro photography needs conditions to be right in relation to moon,
